The quality of the mirror is directly related to the light gathering power and ability to resolve detail.
Optics Testing
DFM technicians take extreme care in the process of grinding, documenting, testing and polishing the product.
Optics are specified and tested for image quality so 80% of incident light falls within 0.6 arc
seconds.
Operational temperature and focusing accuracy are among the standard optics features that are regularly tested at the DFM facility.
Finish on the mirrors is 80/60 for the primary and 60/40 on the secondary.
Focus may be manually controlled or commanded by the control system (focus motor powered only when focusing to minimize heat generation)
Mirror Polishing
Low temperature (-40° Celsius) operation optical encoders
2-speed motorized focus with high accuracy position readout
Invar spacers available to compensate for temperature and maintain focus (optional on 0.4M)
