Programmer / IT Admin

Looking for another software Guru for DFM Engineering.  In addition to understanding how every mechanical part on telescopes functions, this role is responsible for the software / hardware interface.  Preferred experience:  Master degree in Astronomy with excellent programming skills.  Pay dependent on experience.  

Role includes (Many of these functions will be learned on the job):

  • Familiarity with telescopes and pointing models
  • Familiarity with motors and motor controls, troubleshooting electronic hardware and software
  • Experience in Pascal, MATLAB, Rust, C, C++  (ordered by anticipated use)
  • IT administration skills for Windows based network
  • Testing of product functionality before shipment
  • Verifying electronic builds, cabling, assemblies
  • Documentation of all code functionality for end users
  • Customer support - understanding customer needs and requirements, troubleshooting and diagnosis of any issues, explaining proper procedures and methodologies
  • Writing software for imaging analysis and orbital determination (with guidance from PhD expert)

Useful prior skills:

  • Creating custom circuit boards
  • Experience with Delphi 6, 10 and 12 - ability to port older code
  • Experience with Galil servo motion controllers
  • Experience with imaging:  data acquisition, image processing / algorithms, analysis
  • Experience with orbital element determination:  associated data structures,  signal processing, tracking and reporting

CAD / CAM Designer

  • Designing precision mechanical parts and assemblies according to specifications, sketches and drafts
  • Create drawings and parts lists
  • Check feasibility and function of designs
  • Examine shape design, dimensions and tolerances according to drafts or specifications in the 3D model
  • Close collaboration in interdisciplinary project teams
  • Propose, coordinate and work out design changes
  • Maintain all files, logs, and records as required
  • Provide design data in the form of 3D models, drawings, data sheets, and parts lists
  • Understands production due dates and schedules programs to be in the correct priority for manufacturing
  • Oversees production of parts
  • Work within a fabrication environment with intermittent contact with machine noise and factory working conditions
  • Carry out rough calculations for dimensioning components (strength, rigidity, cross-sections, center of gravity, mass)
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor / Fusion360 (or equivalent)

Useful prior skills:

  • Experience manufacturing parts with CNC machines
  • Experience with manual machine work on lathes and mills
