Big Bear Solar Telescope

DFM Engineering has designed a new 1.6 meter computer controlled solar telescope for the Big Bear Solar Observatory located in Big Bear Lake, California.

The Observatory is operated by the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).

The new telescope is being fabricated at DFM while the observatory is being remodeled to accommodate the modern addition.

A new pier has been installed inside the observatory building and a new floor level for access to the new telescope has been built around the pier.

This image (left) is an artist's rendition of the 1.6 meter solar telescope that is currently being manufactured at DFM.

Excellent quality craftsmanship is shown throughout the stages of telescope construction.

For a history of the fabrication accomplishments in the Big Bear Solar Telescope project to date, NJIT is providing a link to images and progress notes.

The DFM team estimates the date of installation to be late summer 2008.
